NLTDR MISSING

How to Fix an NTLDR Missing Problem

Operating systems such as Windows XP and Windows 2000 use a file called "NTLDR" during computer startup, instead of the "bootmgr" file used by newer Windows operating systems such as Windows 7. You will most likely get an error stating that "NTLDR is missing" if the NTLDR file is damaged or corrupted. If you are getting this error during computer startup, you must use the Windows Recovery Console to recover the NTLDR file.

Instructions

  1. Insert a Windows XP installation disc (Windows 2000 installation disc if you have Windows 2000 installed) into your computer's CD drive
  2. Restart your computer and press any key when prompted to boot from the Windows XP/Windows 2000 installation disc.
  3. Press the "R" key during the Windows XP/Windows 2000 "Welcome to Setup" screen to launch the Windows Recovery Console
  4. Enter your administrative username and password when prompted and press "Enter".
  5. Type "Copy <CD Drive>:\I386\NTLDR C:\" and press "Enter." Substitute "<CD Drive>" of the command line with the appropriate letter of your computer's CD drive.
  6. Type "Copy <CD Drive>:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\" and press "Enter."
